PORTAL is a LARP (Live Action Role-Playing ) organization offering continuous storyline events in and around Portland, Oregon.
A LARP is a type of role playing game where the players physically portray their characters while interacting with other characters and the responsive game world.
It’s like playing a video game, but you get to go INTO the video game and really play your character!

With 20 character races and more than 100 playable monster races, you can always be someone…or something amazing at PORTAL!
Have An adventure
Events are often held on Saturdays, Sundays and select weekdays; most events are held Friday-Sunday with on-site sleeping offered!
Our idyllic settings include a Wilderness Camp on almost 200 acres surrounding the Molalla River as well as locations more central to Portland!

You can come to a PORTAL event in your normal clothes with nothing in your pocket, you can even play NPC’s for FREE and we provide the costuming!
One requirement for whatever you’ll be playing: Bring a comfortable shoe or boot.
While PORTAL strives to have as much costuming and accessories available for sale at each event, our supplies are currently limited.
Additionally, you can come to your first PORTAL event with your character created, your costume and makeup in hand and your weapons and armor all ready to pass Weapons Check.
Both of these are fantastic and realistic ways to experience PORTAL, it’s all up to you!
To play your own personal character at a PORTAL event, your first step is character creation; head over to the Races Page and decide what type of character you would like to play. Peruse the website and check out the Forums to familiarize yourself with PORTAL and the world in which we play!
Take a look at our Upcoming Events and once you have a race and some starting skills in mind, create your character! Then, register for the event of your choosing!
Not sure what you want to play?
Come to a Character Creation Event! We can always begin or finalize your character creation online or at events, so you can play to your heart’s content whenever you want to begin!
Want to play for free as an NPC?
Register for the event as a Full Time NPC and not only do you get to play completely free, you also earn valuable Portal Points! Register early as Full Time NPC slots are limited!

Where Do I Go?
PORTAL utilizes numerous locations for our various events.
All specific event information is listed on the Event Page.
Footwear
One requirement for whatever you’ll be playing: Bring a comfortable shoe or boot.
An extremely important piece of equipment, your footwear should be comfortable, durable, supportive and visually pleasing. We recommend:
- Son of Sandlar
- Catskill Mountain Mocassins
- Soul Path Shoes
These are made to work, high quality, high cost and will last you many years with proper care.
When considering footwear, fantasy/period aesthetics is also an important factor as we strive to immerse all players in our wondrous fantasy world!
With this in mind you can easily find these items that will also fit the bill without breaking the bank.
- Tall Hiking Boots (all black or brown tend to look best)
- Medieval or fantasy spats over your preferred footwear
To begin with, you may want to look around at vintage, secondhand, military or farm stores for something comfortable that will look the part. Not sure if your footwear is up to snuff? Ask us, we’ll help!

Purchasable On-Site
While PORTAL strives to have as much costuming and accessories available for sale at each event, our supplies are currently limited.
We often have these items for sale, while supplies last:
- Latex & Boffer Weapons
- Spell Packets
- White Headbands
- Accessories (Spirit gum, elf ears)
As of May 2020 we have limited or no supply of these items for sale:
- Costuming (Basic tunics, Rennaissance pants, cloaks, chemises, etc.)
- Armor & Pouches
- Accessories (Makeup and remover, prostethics, non elf ears, tails and race specific items)
- Cold Weather Items (gloves, hats, hand warmers, etc.)
Food, Delicious Food!
Meals are a source of pride at PORTAL, we seek out the most natural and nourishing ingredients and carefully plan our menus in concert with our players needs.
Drinks & snacks are important too, and always available for purchase at the Tavern Bar.
Each event has different food requirements and will be available for sale a la carte as well as during pre-registration, bundled for savings with your event cost.
Weapons
Latex, Boffers and Bows oh my!
PORTAL allows many different forms of combat so be sure to choose your weapon wisely!
Weapons also available for sale at camp.
The Magic of Spell Packets
PORTAL’s magic system utilizes spell packets to represent spells being cast.
What Should I Wear?
What you wear will largely depend upon what type of character you choose to play!
Some races have makeup/clothing requirements so be sure to check the Races Page for specifics on each race.
For those without requirements, a basic tunic and ankle banded trousers is a great start for anyone!
Makeup & Prosthetics
Some races require makeup and prosthetics! We have for sale at camp:
- Spirit gum and remover
- Elf ears, cat noses, prostethics
- Makeup, Ben Nye, remover, etc.
While supplies last!
- All NPC makeup will be provided for you and available on camp.
